After Podium announced the official rebranding recently, we couldn’t help thinking of our start as the furniture brand. It was when we decided that ‘Podium’ would no longer be just an OEM furniture manufacturer but would turn to invent and create the first furniture collection that meets the needs of domestic and international customers in collaboration with Amornthep Chouysoon of SLAP Studio.
In 2005, Podium launched the first collection, ‘CURIO’, designed based on three principles: simple and timeless design, natural materials like graded solid wood allowing users to touch the natural living, and the production by highly skilled craftsmen who have gained a lot of experience throughout our long years of being a wooden furniture manufacturer.
Consequently, each piece from the CURIO collection is filled with simplicity, functionality, and quality DNA. Of course, this collection has been well received since then.
One of the pieces from the CURIO collection that we will talk about is ‘Folk Stool’, a stool with a unique appearance and a distinctive screw-shaped part of its seat. This product is suitable for modern homes that require furniture with a distinct character. It also comes with high-quality materials like solid oak imported from America and beech from Germany.

We believe that the answer is the “solid wood spiral”, which distinguishes Folk Stool from other similar goods created by different brands that prefer to cast plastic spirals or cut steel spirals instead of wood carving as Podium does.
The production of wooden spirals requires the precision of a three-axis CNC machine to carve a wooden female screw. This process is entirely based on the precise settings, machine control by skilled craftsmen, plus a unique program developed by Podium so that Folk Stool can be adequately adjusted as designed by a designer.
As a matter of fact, we used this production technique to produce some furniture models exported to Japan before.
Differently, the making of a wooden male screw needs a “feeder” to get this part complete and look like a screw. This male screw is the only part of Folk Stool that is made of beech, instead of oak, because beech has more rigid texture than oak used for other components.
We can say that beech is more suitable for cutting the wood in a spiral pattern to prevent cracking, if compared to oak.
When both parts are created with high-precision machining, we have the two main ingredients that fit each other and allow the Folk Stool to spin ideally. Then it was the process of bringing all parts together using wood pins and dowels with great attention to ensure the strength and the most extended lifespan of this furniture.
Another detail orientation reflected in this Folk Stool is the footrest, which uses the technique of stacking three layers of wood with different wood grains to make the footrest stronger. This is another way to prevent the breakage of workpieces when being stepped on.

ย้อนกลับไปเมื่อปี พ.ศ.2548 Podium เปิดตัวคอลเลคชั่นแรกในชื่อ ‘CURIO’ ซึ่งถูกออกแบบโดยใช้หลักการ 3 ข้อ ได้แก่ ดีไซน์ที่เรียบง่ายและไร้กาลเวลา วัสดุธรรมชาติอย่างไม้จริงคัดเกรด ซึ่งทำให้ผู้ใช้งานได้ใช้ชีวิตใกล้ชิดธรรมชาติยิ่งขึ้น และการผลิตด้วยช่างฝีมือทักษะสูงที่สั่งสมประสบการณ์มาตลอดหลายปีที่ Podium เป็นผู้รับจ้างผลิตเฟอร์นิเจอร์
